Wings of Grace: Finding Rest in God
Scripture: "You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself." — Exodus 19:4
Devotional Thoughts
The journey of the Israelites from Egypt was filled with challenges, trials, and moments of uncertainty. Yet, in the midst of their fears and hardships, God reminded them of His loving care, likening it to the way an eagle carries her young on her wings. An eagle’s wings are powerful, yet gentle, able to lift the young and bring them to safety. In Exodus 19:4, God beautifully illustrates His grace—lifting the Israelites out of captivity, shielding them from danger, and carrying them to a place of rest and relationship with Him.
Just as God carried the Israelites, He still carries us today. Life often brings us seasons that feel overwhelming—times when the burdens seem too heavy, and we are unsure of what lies ahead. During one particularly difficult period in my life, I found myself worn out, trying to solve problems on my own strength. My work responsibilities piled up, family issues were demanding my attention, and I felt completely drained. It was during this time that I read Exodus 19:4, and it felt as though God was gently reminding me, "I am the One who carries you."
That realization brought an immense sense of relief. It wasn’t about me having the strength to solve everything; it was about surrendering and allowing God to carry me on His "wings of grace." When we recognize that God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9), we can find true rest—a rest that comes not from the absence of challenges but from knowing that God is carrying us through them.
Practical Reflection
Recognize His Presence: Take time today to reflect on the times when God has carried you through difficult situations. Write them down as a reminder of His faithfulness.
Release Control: Often, we carry burdens that were never meant for us to carry alone. Take a moment to pray and intentionally release those burdens to God. Imagine yourself being lifted on His wings, resting in His care.
Find Rest in Grace: Practice resting in God’s presence. This could be through prayer, listening to worship music, or simply sitting in silence and reflecting on His goodness. Rest isn’t just physical; it’s a state of knowing that God is in control, and we are safe in His hands.
Closing Thoughts
God’s grace is like the wings of an eagle—strong, secure, and ever-present. When life feels overwhelming, remember that God does not leave you to navigate it alone. He invites you to rest on His wings, to find strength in His power, and to experience the peace that comes from trusting in His unfailing love. You don’t have to do it all; you are invited to rest, knowing that the One who holds the universe is also holding you.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your grace that lifts me up when I feel weak and overwhelmed. Help me to trust in Your strength and to find rest in Your care. Remind me that I am not alone, and that You carry me, just as You carried the Israelites on eagles’ wings. Teach me to surrender my burdens to You and to rest in the assurance of Your unfailing love. In Jesus' name, Amen.
