💭 Devotional Thoughts
In the cool of the day, God walked through the Garden of Eden. But something was different. Adam and Eve were nowhere to be found. They had sinned. They knew it. Shame wrapped around them like the fig leaves they hastily stitched together. And so, they hid. Then came the voice of the Lord: “Where are you?”
This wasn’t a question of location. God is omniscient—He knew exactly where Adam was. This was a heart-level question. It was a call. A divine invitation for Adam to step out from the shadows of fear, guilt, and shame and back into fellowship with God.
And today, He’s still asking that question. “Where are you?”
How often do we, like Adam, hide when we feel we’ve failed God? Maybe you’ve messed up—again. Maybe you think your sin is too dark, too deep, too disappointing. So you cover up. You pretend. You withdraw. But God’s voice doesn’t thunder with condemnation—it gently calls your name.
The God who walked in the garden is the same God who went to the cross. His love still seeks the hidden heart. His grace still calls out to the sinner. Not to shame you—but to restore you.
Peter denied Jesus three times, despite promising he never would. When the rooster crowed, Peter wept bitterly and disappeared into the night. But after the resurrection, Jesus went looking for Peter—not to punish him, but to restore him. On the shore, Jesus cooked breakfast and asked Peter, “Do you love me?” (John 21:15-17). He didn’t bring up the denial. He brought Peter back into relationship.
This is what God does. He always moves toward us, even in our darkest moments.
🔍 Practical Reflection
Where are you today?
Are you hiding—emotionally, spiritually, or relationally? Are you avoiding prayer, dodging Scripture, skipping church, or putting on a mask of “I’m fine”?
God is not asking “Where are you?” because He’s angry. He’s asking because He misses you. He wants to walk with you again.
You don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t have to clean yourself up first. Step out from behind whatever fig leaves you’ve used to cover your shame. Let Him clothe you in grace. Let Him restore your soul.
🧡 Closing Thoughts
You were never meant to live in hiding. That’s the enemy’s tactic—to keep you in the dark, isolated, afraid. But God is light. And His love doesn’t recoil from your sin—it runs toward it with redemption.
Hear His voice today. It’s not distant. It’s near. And it’s calling you by name: “Where are you?”
🙏 Prayer
Father, thank You for Your persistent love. Even when I run, hide, or cover myself in shame, You still call out to me. Forgive me for the times I’ve withdrawn from You out of guilt. Help me to remember that You don’t push me away—you draw me near. Restore my heart. Remind me that no sin is too great for Your grace. I choose to step out of hiding and walk with You again. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
