Scripture: "When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, it turned off the road into a field. Balaam beat it to get it back on the road." - Numbers 22:23

Devotional Thoughts

There are moments in life when we seek something earnestly, believing it to be the best course for us. We pray, push forward, and pursue what we think is right, only to find obstacles blocking our path. When this happens, it’s easy to feel frustrated, confused, or even angry at God. Balaam, in Numbers 22, found himself in such a situation. Though he was eager to go forward with his plan, God saw the unseen danger ahead and intervened to stop him.

Balaam’s story teaches us a powerful lesson: God sees beyond what we can perceive. He is not bound by time and space as we are. When He says “No,” it is not because He wants to deprive us of something good, but because He is protecting us from unseen dangers. Balaam’s anger and frustration blinded him to the divine intervention happening before him. In his determination to press forward, he failed to recognize that God was mercifully standing in his way.

This account mirrors our own experiences. How often do we become frustrated when things don’t go our way, not realizing that God is shielding us from harm? Just as Balaam eventually saw the wisdom in God’s intervention, we too must learn to trust that God’s “No” is just as loving as His “Yes.”

Nick Vujicic was born without arms or legs and desperately prayed for a miracle. But God said “No.” At first, he felt broken and rejected. However, God had a greater plan—using Nick to inspire millions worldwide as a speaker and evangelist.

Instead of healing his body, God gave him a powerful testimony. Today, Nick’s life proves that God's “No” is often a divine redirection to something greater.

Practical Reflection

God’s No is often a redirection rather than a rejection. Have you ever experienced a time when God’s “No” led to something much better than what you originally desired?

Closing Thoughts

In our journey, God’s wisdom far surpasses our understanding. What seems like a setback or denial in the moment may actually be divine protection. If Balaam had his way, he would have walked into destruction. Instead, God mercifully blocked his path to save him. Likewise, we should learn to surrender to God’s will, knowing that His plans are always for our good.

Instead of resisting when God says “No,” let’s learn to trust that His ways are higher than ours. His denials are often divine detours leading us to something far greater than we could imagine. May we always be willing to accept His redirection with faith, knowing that He loves us too much to let us walk into danger blindly.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me enough to say “No” when necessary. Help me to trust You even when I don’t understand. Open my eyes to recognize Your hand in every closed door, knowing that You are leading me on the best path. Give me a heart that surrenders fully to Your will, believing that Your ways are always higher than mine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
