Unplug

Scripture: “Therefore, come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.” – 2 Corinthians 6:17 (NKJV)

Devotional Thoughts

Recently, as I was in my devotion session, a single word echoed in my heart: "Unplug."  It wasn't an audible voice, but a gentle nudge from the Holy Spirit, a prompting to examine the connections in my life.  Just like a device needs to be unplugged to recharge, we, too need to disconnect from certain things to truly connect with God.

The Israelites were repeatedly instructed to separate themselves from the pagan practices and influences of the nations around them. In Exodus 34:12-13, God warned them not to make treaties with the inhabitants of the land but instead to “demolish their altars, smash their sacred stones, and cut down their Asherah poles.” These commands were not just about physical idols; they were about cutting ties with anything that would compete with God for their hearts.

In our modern world, the "unclean things" might look different. They may not be physical idols but rather unhealthy attachments, habits, or relationships that drain our spiritual energy and distract us from God's presence.  Maybe it's the constant scroll through social media, the comparison that steals our joy, or the fear-mongering news cycle that robs us of peace. Perhaps it's a toxic relationship that leaves us feeling depleted or a commitment that pulls us away from our priorities.

Practical Reflections

Take a moment to reflect on your own life. What are you connected to that is hindering your spiritual growth, mental well-being, or emotional health?  Is it a specific person, a habit, a form of entertainment, or even a mindset?  Be honest with yourself.

Closing Thoughts

Unplugging isn't always easy. It may require difficult conversations, setting boundaries, or even letting go of things we've held onto for a long time. But the freedom and peace that come from aligning ourselves with God's will are worth the effort.

Remember, when we disconnect from the things that hinder us, we create space for God to fill us with His love, joy, and peace.  We become more receptive to His voice, more sensitive to His leading, and more empowered to live a life that honors Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Thank you for your gentle reminders to disconnect from the things that hinder my relationship with you. Give me the wisdom to identify those unhealthy connections in my life and the courage to unplug from them. Fill the space I create with your presence, your peace, and your purpose. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
