📖 Scripture:

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” - Mark 8:36 (KJV):

đź’ Devotional Thoughts

In our world, success is often measured by what you own—cars, houses, business achievements, or the size of your bank account. But Jesus calls us to pause and ask a hard question: What is all this worth if you lose your soul in the process?

Imagine for a moment gaining everything you've ever wanted. Every dream comes true. Every goal is met. You’re applauded, envied, and celebrated. But in the quiet of your heart, you realize that somewhere along the journey, you drifted from God. The One who gave you breath, who gave you life, is now a stranger.

Jesus asked this question not to shame us, but to awaken us. Your soul—your eternal being—is worth far more than anything you could acquire here on earth. The world promises comfort, pleasure, and status, but it cannot save your soul. Only God can.

The rich young ruler in Mark 10:17–27. He had wealth, position, and likely a reputation of success. Yet when Jesus told him to sell his possessions and follow Him, the man walked away sorrowful. Why? Because he had great wealth. He wanted eternal life, but not at the cost of his comfort.

He had the chance to walk with Jesus—to know Him, to be changed, to gain eternal treasure—but he traded it for temporary security.

🔍 Practical Reflection

Let’s be honest. We all chase things—approval, money, control, beauty, success. But if we’re not careful, these things can become idols. They promise fulfillment but often leave us empty.

✨ Closing Thoughts

There’s nothing wrong with working hard or dreaming big. But when those dreams replace your devotion, it’s time to realign. The soul is eternal; the world is temporary. Don’t trade what is everlasting for what is passing away.

Let your treasure be Christ. Let your wealth be in knowing Him.

🙏 Prayer

Father, remind me daily that my soul is of far greater value than anything this world can offer. Help me to seek You first, to hold loosely the things of this life, and to cling tightly to You. Teach me not to chase gain at the cost of my soul. Keep my heart pure, my motives clean, and my eyes fixed on eternity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
