Devotional Thoughts
Imagine driving down a road at night without headlights, completely unaware of the potholes, curves, or dangers ahead. You can easily swerve off the road or crash because you can’t see what’s coming. This is what life is like without knowledge—without understanding the truth that guides us. Knowledge isn’t just about gaining facts; it’s about seeing clearly and making wise decisions that align with God’s will.
In the Bible, King Solomon is a great example of how valuable knowledge can be. When Solomon became king, he didn’t ask God for riches, power, or fame. Instead, he asked for wisdom and knowledge to lead God’s people (2 Chronicles 1:10). In response, God not only gave him wisdom but also blessed him with wealth, honour, and a successful reign. Solomon understood that with knowledge and wisdom, he could lead well, make better decisions, and avoid destructive paths.
On the flip side, we see examples where lack of knowledge led to devastating consequences. In Hosea 4:6, God says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." The Israelites were turning away from God, following idols, and abandoning the truth that had been passed down to them. They were making decisions out of ignorance, not understanding the consequences of their actions. This led to their destruction because they didn't have the knowledge to choose what was right.
Practical Reflection
Think about a time in your life when not knowing something important led to difficulties or even pain. Maybe you made a financial decision without understanding the risks, or you entered a relationship without fully grasping the character of the person.
This same principle applies spiritually. Many of us struggle with certain aspects of life—whether it’s battling temptation, navigating relationships, or understanding God’s purpose—because we don’t have the knowledge we need. That’s why it’s so critical to seek knowledge, especially from God’s Word. It’s there that we find guidance for every area of life. The Bible is full of practical wisdom for how we can handle our finances, relationships, work, and faith.
Take time every day to dig into the Bible, pray for wisdom, and ask God to reveal His truth to you. Surround yourself with others who seek God’s knowledge as well. The more we know, the better equipped we are to handle the challenges that come our way.
Closing Thoughts
The power of knowledge is undeniable. It shapes our decisions, our actions, and ultimately our lives. When we lack knowledge, especially knowledge of God’s truth, we are vulnerable to making choices that can lead us away from Him. But when we seek knowledge from God’s Word, we gain clarity, wisdom, and the ability to navigate life’s challenges with confidence.
Prayer
Father, I thank You for the gift of knowledge and the wisdom that comes from Your Word. I confess that there are times when I rely on our own understanding instead of seeking Your guidance. Help me to hunger for Your truth and to seek knowledge daily. Open my eyes to the wisdom that comes from You, so I can make decisions that honour You and walk in the path You have set before me. Lead me, Lord, and fill me with Your understanding. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
