“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” — Galatians 6:7 (NKJV)
Life is a series of choices, and each choice comes with consequences—some immediate, some delayed, but all real. God’s Word repeatedly emphasizes a principle that cannot be ignored: our actions, whether good or bad, produce fruit. And that fruit is what we must live with.
Consider Achan, a man who disobeyed a direct command from God during Israel’s conquest of Jericho (Joshua 7). Despite being part of God’s chosen people, he took what was forbidden—the “devoted things”—and hid them. The result was not only personal tragedy, but communal loss. Israel was defeated in battle, men died, and Achan’s entire household was destroyed. A single disobedient act echoed far beyond the moment.
Similarly, Gehazi, the servant of Elisha, let greed lead him into deception. After Naaman was healed, Gehazi secretly pursued him to ask for gifts Elisha had refused. His punishment? The leprosy that once plagued Naaman clung to Gehazi and his descendants (2 Kings 5:20–27). Again, one man’s hidden act became a public consequence.
But obedience also bears fruit.Abraham, though unsure and likely afraid, obeyed when God called him to leave everything familiar and go to a land he had never seen (Genesis 12:1–4). Later, he obeyed again when told to sacrifice Isaac, the son of promise. Though it made no sense, he trusted. The result? God reaffirmed His covenant and made Abraham a father of nations (Genesis 22:15–18). His obedience brought generational blessings.
The truth is unavoidable: what we sow, we will reap.
Every decision we make today has a ripple effect. The small acts of dishonesty, the momentary pleasures of sin, the decisions made in anger or haste—all of them build a future we must live in. Likewise, small acts of faith, integrity, and obedience—even when unseen by others—lay the foundation for blessings we can’t yet comprehend.
Are you pausing to ask, “What will this decision cost?” or “Does this align with God’s will?” Obedience may be hard in the moment, but it always leads to lasting peace. Disobedience might offer instant gratification, but it eventually brings sorrow.
God does not delight in punishing, but He is just. His laws are not suggestions; they are protective boundaries meant to lead us into life. The choices we make reveal whom we trust—ourselves or Him. Today, let us choose to obey even when it’s uncomfortable, uncertain, or unpopular. Let’s trust that the God who sees in secret will reward us openly.
Heavenly Father, thank You for being a just and merciful God. I acknowledge that my actions carry weight, and I ask for wisdom to make choices that honour You. Forgive me for the times I’ve chosen my own way over Yours. Help me walk in obedience, even when I don’t understand everything. Strengthen my heart to sow righteousness so that I may reap Your peace and joy. May my life reflect the fruit of obedience and bring glory to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
