Devotional Thoughts
I recently discovered that seed sowing goes far beyond what we usually think of in terms of crops and produce. The most prominent seed each of us has is time. Time is the one thing we all have equally, but how we use it is what makes the difference. When we choose to dedicate our time to God—whether through prayer, reading the Word, worship, or acts of service—we are, in fact, sowing a precious seed. And God, in His faithfulness, multiplies it.
I have experienced this firsthand. When I decided to start writing devotionals, I thought I wouldn't have enough time to manage it all—family, work, commitments. Yet, the more I dedicated time to writing these devotionals, the more I felt God expand my capacity. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I found myself with more clarity, energy, and even more time to attend to other responsibilities. It was as though God took my offering of time and multiplied it back to me in abundance.
A great biblical example of sowing time is found in the story of Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42). When Jesus visited their home, Martha was busy and distracted by all the preparations, while Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet. Martha’s intentions were good—she wanted to serve Jesus—but Mary recognized something deeper: the importance of investing her time in Jesus Himself. Jesus commended Mary for choosing what was better, emphasizing that time spent with Him is never wasted.
Practical Reflection
Time is a precious commodity, and we often feel like we never have enough of it. But consider this: what if dedicating time to God could actually multiply your effectiveness? Just as a farmer sows seeds with the hope of a future harvest, sowing your time into your relationship with God brings a return that far outweighs the initial investment. This might look like spending an extra ten minutes in prayer each morning or choosing to serve others when you feel "too busy." Whatever form it takes, know that God honours the time you give Him and will bless you abundantly in ways you may not expect.
Closing Thoughts
Sowing the seed of time is not always easy in a world that pulls us in countless directions. But the truth remains: when we prioritize God and give Him our time, He multiplies it in ways that defy our natural understanding. He honours every moment we dedicate to Him, and we can trust that He will meet our needs—even beyond our expectations.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of time. Help me to remember that every moment I sow into Your kingdom is a seed planted for an abundant harvest. Teach me to prioritize You above all else and to trust that You will take care of every detail of my life. Multiply my efforts, Lord, as I choose to give You my time. May my days be filled with Your presence, and may I experience the fullness of Your blessings. In Jesus' name, Amen.
