Scripture
“But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’” — 1 Peter 1:15-16 (NIV)
God does not call us into relationship without also calling us into transformation. At the moment of salvation, a divine shift takes place—not just in our eternal destiny but in how we are called to live each day. Right living, or living righteously, means aligning our actions, thoughts, and desires with the will of God.
God has standards. Not man-made rules or religious checklists, but holy, life-giving standards that reflect His nature. These aren’t designed to restrict us, but to shape us into the people He created us to be—set apart, radiant, and whole. When we stray from these standards, the Bible calls it disobedience. Disobedience is not just a mistake; it is a misalignment with the heart of God.
The world has its own idea of "right" and "wrong," often shifting with the times and culture. But God's standard never changes because His nature never changes. He is holy, and He calls us to holiness—not perfection in our own strength, but a daily walk that reflects His character, empowered by His Spirit.
The example of Daniel in Babylon (Daniel 1), though surrounded by a pagan culture, he made a conscious choice not to defile himself with the king’s food and wine. This wasn't about dietary preference; it was about dedication to God's standards. Daniel’s right living didn’t make him blend in—it made him stand out. And in doing so, God elevated him, gave him favor, and used him powerfully in a foreign land.
Daniel lived above the standards of the world around him, and God honored that. His obedience was not about outward behavior alone—it was a result of inner conviction.
Are there areas in your life where you’ve allowed the world’s standards to take precedence over God’s?
Do your daily choices reflect the holiness of the God you serve?
How often do you seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance in making decisions, both big and small?
Remember, right living is not about being religious—it’s about being in relationship. And in that relationship, we grow more and more into His likeness as we yield to the Spirit and obey His Word.
You’re not alone in this walk. The Holy Spirit is your Helper, your Teacher, and your Strengthener. What God calls you to, He also empowers you to do.
Right living isn't optional for the believer—it's our calling. We don’t live righteously to earn God’s love; we live righteously because we’ve received it. As we commit to God's standards and invite the Holy Spirit to guide us daily, we will be transformed from the inside out, becoming a light in a dark world and a true reflection of Jesus.
Father, thank You for calling me to live a life that reflects Your holiness. I acknowledge that without You, I fall short. But thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit, who empowers me to live according to Your will. Help me to desire Your standards more than the approval of the world. Let my life bring glory to You, and shape me into who You created me to be. In Jesus' name, Amen.
