Scripture
“What can I offer the Lord for all he has done for me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and give thanks to the Lord's name in the presence of all his people.” — Psalm 116: 12–13 (NLT)
Have you ever paused to truly count the blessings in your life? Not just the big moments, but the silent ones too — the air in your lungs, the peace that floods your heart after prayer, the forgiveness that meets you every time you stumble? If we were to put a price tag on each of these, we’d quickly realize: we could never afford to repay God.
God has given us life. Not just physical breath, but eternal hope. He has forgiven sins we don’t even remember committing. He’s spared us from consequences we fully deserved. The natural question becomes — How can I ever repay Him? The answer is humbling: You don’t have to pay. You only have to give.
What God desires in return is not our perfection, not our wealth, not our attempts to earn His favour. What He wants is our devotion, obedience, love, and kindness.
In Luke 7: 36–50, a woman known only for her sins approached Jesus while He was dining. She didn’t bring a list of good deeds or religious qualifications. She brought a jar of perfume and a broken heart. She washed His feet with her tears, wiped them with her hair, and poured out everything she had in devotion. The Pharisees scoffed. But Jesus said, “Her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown.” She couldn’t repay Jesus for His mercy. Instead, she responded with overwhelming love. That is all He ever wanted.
She reminds us: God isn’t impressed by what you can repay. He is moved by what you freely give — your love, your obedience, your heart.
You can never be able to "pay" God back, but you can live in response to His love. That means:
Devotion: Make time for Him. Read His Word. Speak with Him. Listen.
Obedience: Do what He says, even when it’s hard. Trust His way over your own.
Love and Kindness: Be His hands and feet in a world that desperately needs Him.
Don’t measure your worth by how much you can give or do. God isn’t looking for a transaction — He’s looking for transformation. Give Him your heart, your will, your worship. That is the sweetest offering.
God doesn’t want repayment — He wants a relationship.
He doesn’t need your riches — He desires your reverence.
He’s not after duty — He’s after devotion.
So stop trying to earn what’s already been freely given. And start living a life of thanks, not debt.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your endless grace, mercy, and love. I could never repay You, and I realize now that You never asked me to. Instead, You invite me to walk with You, love You, and obey You. Help me to live each day in gratitude, responding to Your goodness with faithfulness. Teach me to be kind, to love deeply, and to reflect Your heart in this world. I surrender not just my words, but my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
