Devotional Thoughts
Have you ever felt like there's something inside of you that needs to be purged? A habit, a behaviour, or even an attitude that's holding you back from living the life God intended?
You're not alone. We all have something within us that needs to be let go of—something that's hindering our progress and keeping us stuck in a rut. This "old self" can take many forms: anger, jealousy, pride, lust, or even lies. The humble caterpillar. At first glance, it may seem insignificant and even ugly. But as we watch it, we see it begin to change, to transform into something entirely new.
The Pain of Purging
Getting rid of the old self is not easy. It's like ripping off a Band-Aid – it might hurt, but it's necessary for healing. When we confront our own weaknesses and flaws, we're forced to face the pain and discomfort that comes with them.
But here's the good news: when we purge the old self, we make room for the new. We create space for Christ to live in us and for His Spirit to transform us from the inside out (2 Corinthians 5:17). Just like a caterpillar's old self was released, a new being emerged in its place—one that can fly higher, explore further, and experience life in ways previously unknown to it. You will experience a newness of life if you let go of the old self.
What does this look like?
Imagine a person who's struggling with anger issues. Every time they get frustrated or upset, they lash out at those around them. But one day, they come to the realization that their anger is not just hurting others, but also themselves.
With the help of Christ and His Spirit, they begin to confront their anger head-on. They learn to identify the triggers that set off their anger, and they take steps to address them. It's a painful process – but as they let go of their anger, they start to feel lighter, freer, and more at peace.
Or picture someone who's been living a life of lies. They've built a facade around themselves, hiding from the truth about who they really are. But when they finally confess their sin and come clean with others, it's like a weight has been lifted off their shoulders.

Conclusion
As we ponder on this incredible process of transformation, remember that God is with you every step of the way. He's not just a distant observer; He's an active participant in your transformation.
Take courage, dear friend, and start the process of leaving behind the old self today. It won't be easy, but it will be worth it. For when we let go of our weaknesses and flaws, we make room for Christ to live in us, and for His Spirit to transform us into brand new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17).
