Scripture: "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." — 1 Peter 5:7
Devotional Thoughts
Life comes with its fair share of problems, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Some are minor inconveniences, like a flat tire on the way to work. Others feel overwhelming, like a sudden job loss, a health crisis, or the breakdown of a relationship. At times, you may think your struggle is unique, that no one else could possibly understand the weight of what you’re carrying. But the truth is, there are countless others facing similar trials—some you’ll never know, and some sitting right next to you.
The temptation to ask, "Why me?" is common when difficulties arise. It’s a natural human response to wonder why hardship has come knocking on your door. Underneath the question, however, is an assumption—why not someone else? Why do I have to endure this?
But the Bible reminds us of two key truths about our struggles:
You Are Not Alone in Your Problems. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind." This principle extends beyond temptation to trials. The issues we face, though they may vary in detail, are not unique to us. While this can be difficult to accept, it also means there’s an opportunity to find community and comfort in shared experiences. Others have faced what you’re going through, and others have walked out on the other side with God’s help.
God Is With You in Every Problem. Regardless of whether your problem feels small or impossibly big, God’s care remains constant. Jesus’ words in Matthew 11:28-30 are an invitation: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." He doesn’t discriminate based on the magnitude of the issue. If it matters to you, it matters to God.
Practical Reflection
Instead of comparing your struggles to others, focus on how God can work through your unique challenges. Think about David standing before Goliath (1 Samuel 17). The size of the problem didn’t matter because David’s confidence wasn’t in his strength but in God’s power. Contrast this with Peter’s reaction to walking on water (Matthew 14:22-33). The moment Peter took his eyes off Jesus and focused on the waves, he began to sink. What do these examples show? That victory isn’t dependent on the size of the problem but on the size of your faith in the One who is greater than the problem.
Closing Thoughts
Problems are inevitable, and their sizes will vary. But no problem is too small to escape God’s notice, and none is too large for Him to handle. When you’re tempted to ask, "Why me?" remember this—God’s grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 12:9). He can turn your mess into a message and your test into a testimony if you trust Him.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for being with me in every challenge, no matter the size. Help me to cast my anxieties on You, knowing You care deeply for me. Strengthen my faith to trust in Your plans and to lean on You, especially when life feels overwhelming. Remind me that I am not alone, and guide me to encourage others who may be facing similar struggles. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
