Scripture: "Then Jesus said to her, ‘O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.’ And her daughter was healed from that very hour.” — Matthew 15:28 (NKJV)
Devotional Thoughts
Life often throws challenges our way that seem impossible to overcome. There are moments when we pray, believe, and yet see no immediate change. It is in these moments that persistence in faith is most critical. The Canaanite woman in Matthew 15:21-28 gives us a powerful example of unwavering faith in the face of adversity.
This woman had a daughter who was severely tormented by a demon. She came to Jesus, pleading for mercy. At first, Jesus remained silent. Then, the disciples urged Him to send her away. Even when Jesus told her that His mission was first to the lost sheep of Israel, she did not take offense or walk away in disappointment. Instead, she persisted, humbling herself and declaring that even the "little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table" (Matthew 15:27). Jesus, seeing her great faith, granted her request, and her daughter was healed instantly.
Her story is a lesson for us all—when we are believing God for a breakthrough, we must not give up. Whether you are praying for a wayward child, restoration in a broken relationship, healing, or a financial miracle, know that God sees your persistence. Delays are not denials. Silence is not abandonment. Keep pressing in faith, knowing that God rewards those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).
Practical Reflection
Keep Praying: The woman could have stopped asking after Jesus remained silent, but she kept pushing. Do not stop praying just because you have not seen immediate results.
Hold on to Faith: Faith is not about seeing; it is about believing even when the circumstances seem impossible.
Stay Humble and Expectant: The woman approached Jesus with humility, not entitlement. She believed even the smallest touch from Him would be enough. Approach God with an expectant heart.
Don’t Let Others Discourage You: The disciples tried to send her away, but she was not deterred. People may discourage you, but hold firm to God’s promises.
Closing Thoughts
What are you praying for today? What breakthrough are you believing God for? Take inspiration from this woman’s persistence. Do not give up, do not be discouraged, and do not settle for anything less than God's best for your life. Your miracle may be just a prayer away.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You for reminding me to persist in faith even when I do not see immediate results. Help me to trust Your timing and not give up in my prayers. Strengthen my heart and encourage my spirit to keep pressing forward. Just as the Canaanite woman did not back down, help me to stand firm in faith until my breakthrough comes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
