Scripture: "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." – 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

Devotional Thoughts

Fear is a natural emotion that often arises in response to danger, uncertainty, or challenges. However, fear can also paralyze us, lead to poor decisions, and prevent us from walking in faith. The Bible reminds us that God has not given us a spirit of fear. Instead, He equips us with power, love, and a sound mind to face any situation.

In Scripture, we see how fear affected Abraham. When famine struck, Abraham traveled to Egypt. Fearing for his life because of his wife Sarah's beauty, he lied and said she was his sister (Genesis 12:10-20). Though God protected Sarah and intervened, Abraham's fear led him to compromise the truth.

Similarly, the inhabitants of Jericho were paralyzed by fear when they heard of Israel’s victories (Joshua 2:9-11). Their fear weakened their resolve and paved the way for their defeat when God caused the walls of Jericho to fall.

Fear is often the tool the enemy uses to weaken our faith. Like predatory animals that immobilize their prey by instilling fear, Satan seeks to keep us bound and defeated through anxiety and doubt. Yet, God calls us to trust in His strength rather than surrender to fear.

Practical Reflection

Closing Thoughts

Fear may come, but it doesn’t have to control us. God’s Word empowers us to stand firm, knowing that His spirit within us is one of boldness, love, and self-control. Just as God protected Abraham despite his fear and gave victory to Israel at Jericho, He will fight for us when we place our trust in Him. Let us choose faith over fear and move forward with courage, knowing that God is always with us.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank You that You have not given me a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. Forgive me for the times I have let fear rule my heart and decisions. Help me to walk in faith, trusting in Your promises and protection. Fill me with Your peace and courage so that I can face challenges without fear. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
