📖 Scripture
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." — Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
Recently, I went for an early morning jog. It was one of those foggy mornings where the mist hung thick in the air, and you could barely see a few steps ahead. Though I knew the road well—every turn, every tree, every familiar corner—the heavy fog made it difficult to navigate. I had to slow down, listen closely, and take each step with greater care.
That jog reminded me of how life can feel sometimes. Even when we’ve walked a certain path before, unexpected fog—grief, change, loss, transition, or uncertainty—can settle in and obscure what’s ahead. We know God, we know His promises, but the way forward just isn’t clear. And it’s in those exact moments that God speaks the loudest, if we’re still enough to hear Him.
Joshua knew that feeling. After Moses died, God handed Joshua the mantle of leadership to guide the people of Israel into the Promised Land. Talk about walking into a fog! Joshua had never led on this level before. He stood at the edge of an unknown journey—with challenges, battles, and responsibilities far beyond his experience. But into that cloud of uncertainty, God declared: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
The unknown isn't a dead end. It's a place of divine encounter. It’s where God teaches us to trust His presence more than our plans. His voice more than our vision.
Real-Life Examples of the Unknown:
A Child Who’s Strayed: You did everything right, but they’ve wandered. The wait and worry feel endless.
A Health Crisis: A diagnosis or sudden illness throws life into chaos.
Job Loss or Financial Trouble: Security vanishes and uncertainty about provision sets in.
A Broken Relationship or Divorce: The pain and unknowns after something you built falls apart.
A Big Life Transition or Calling: Starting something new, but you feel unprepared or unsure of what lies ahead.
Are you walking through a foggy season right now? Maybe life was predictable once, but now it feels like you're jogging in the mist—unsure, cautious, slowed down. Don’t despise this space. God does powerful work in the unknown.
Just like on that foggy road, where the path didn't disappear—it just wasn't visible—God's plan for your life hasn't vanished. It’s still there, even when you can’t see it clearly.
In the unknown:
Lean on God’s promises. Let verses like Joshua 1:9 anchor you when emotions want to drift.
Be honest about your fear, but stay obedient. Courage is moving forward even when you're afraid.
Take the next small step. Don’t wait for total clarity to walk in faith.
Rest in His presence. You’re not navigating alone. He is with you—truly, deeply, and constantly.
The unknown is uncomfortable—but it’s also holy. It’s where God forms leaders, refines faith, and reminds us that our security was never in the road ahead but in the One who walks beside us. Like Joshua, you may be stepping into new ground. But remember this: God’s presence doesn’t fade in the fog. It becomes your guide.
Father, thank You for being the Light when I can’t see what’s ahead. When life becomes unclear and uncertain, help me to trust You more deeply. Teach me to walk by faith and not by sight. Give me the strength to be courageous, and the peace to know that Your presence goes before me. Even when I feel lost, You are never far. Lead me through the unknown, and grow my trust in the journey. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
