Scripture: "9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” — John 2:9-10 (NIV)
Devotional Thoughts
One of the most beautiful aspects of Jesus’ presence is that He always makes things better than before. When He steps into a situation, He doesn’t just restore it to its former state—He improves it, perfects it, and brings forth something greater than what was there before.
A striking example of this truth is found in the story of the wedding at Cana. The celebration was at risk of turning into a disaster when the hosts ran out of wine. Running out of wine in that culture was not just an inconvenience; it was a social embarrassment. Yet, when Mary brought the problem to Jesus, He turned an ordinary crisis into an extraordinary testimony.
Not only did Jesus transform water into wine, but the new wine was of far better quality than what had been served earlier. The master of the banquet was astounded, declaring that they had saved the best for last. This is the nature of Christ’s work in our lives—He takes what seems to be failing, lacking, or ending and fills it with new life, new joy, and new glory.
Practical Reflection
Are there areas in your life where you feel like things are running out or declining? Maybe your strength is fading, your hope is dimming, or your opportunities seem to be closing. The good news is that when Jesus intervenes, He doesn’t just patch things up—He renews them. He can take what seems depleted and transform it into something greater than before.
Perhaps you’ve been through struggles that have left you feeling empty. Know this: Jesus is not done with you. His best is not behind you; it’s ahead of you. Like the wedding guests at Cana, you may feel like the joy has run dry, but Jesus is preparing something better for you.
Closing Thoughts
Jesus always leaves things better than before. When He enters a situation, He doesn’t just meet the need—He exceeds expectations. The same Jesus who turned water into wine can turn your sorrow into joy, your lack into abundance, and your weakness into strength. Trust in Him, invite Him into your circumstances, and believe that He has something better in store for you.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for always making things better than before. When I feel like I have run out of strength, joy, or hope, remind me that You are not finished with me. I invite You into my circumstances today—transform what is lacking and bring forth something greater than I could imagine. Let my life be a testimony of Your goodness and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
