Devotional Thoughts
We all have two known dates in our lives: the day we were born, and the day we will die (known by God). These are the bookends of our existence here on earth. But the important part, the most impactful part, is what happens in between. The "in between" moments are what shape not only our lives but also our eternity.
This span of life we have is brief, like a vapour that appears for a moment and then vanishes (James 4:14). Though short, this time is full of opportunities—opportunities to love, serve, grow, and pour ourselves out for the glory of God and the good of others. Some people spend their "in between" pursuing only wealth, status, and fleeting pleasures. They work hard to accumulate possessions, yet somehow, they never feel satisfied. The more they chase, the emptier they become.
Others choose to live differently. They use their time, talents, and resources to serve God and uplift those around them. They may not have wealth or fame, but they leave behind something far greater—a legacy of love, compassion, and faithfulness. They understand that the true meaning of life is not found in what they accumulate but in what they give away.
Jesus said in Matthew 6:20-21, "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." The way we live in the "in between" is an investment in eternity. Every kind word, every selfless act, every sacrifice made for God's kingdom adds to the treasure we store in heaven.
Practical Reflection
Take a moment today to reflect on how you are spending your "in between". Are you focused on things that will pass away, or are you investing in what is eternal? Consider how you can use your time, talents, and resources to glorify God and bless others. It could be as simple as encouraging a friend, spending quality time with family, or serving at your church or local community. Each of these seemingly small acts can have a significant impact, not just now but for eternity.
Ask yourself, "What kind of legacy am I leaving behind?" Your legacy doesn’t need to be written in history books; it can be etched in the hearts of those you touch with love, compassion, and faithfulness. Your "in between" is a gift from God—use it wisely.
Closing Thoughts
Life is precious and brief. It’s easy to get caught up in the distractions of this world and forget what really matters. But God calls us to be mindful of how we spend our days. Every moment counts, and every choice we make in the "in between" has the power to shape our eternity. Let’s live each day with purpose, seeking God, and pouring out His love to those around us.
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You for the gift of life and the time You have given me. Teach me to number my days so that I may live with wisdom. Help me to use my "in between" moments to glorify You and serve others. May I leave a legacy that points others to You and reflects Your love and grace. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
