Scripture: "The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, 'Take off the grave clothes and let him go.'" - John 11:44 (NIV)

Devotional Thoughts

When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, He spoke words that still resonate today: "Take off the grave clothes and let him go." The resurrection of Lazarus was an amazing miracle that pointed to the redemptive power of Jesus, but the removal of the grave clothes was just as significant. It was a declaration that Lazarus was no longer bound by the signs of death. It was time for him to live again—free and unencumbered.

In our own lives, many of us experience moments where Jesus calls us out of the grave, rescuing us from spiritual death. When He calls us out, His desire is not just to give us new life but also to free us from everything that represents our old, sinful life. Grave clothes—those old rags of guilt, shame, regrets, and sinful habits—are no longer fitting for the redeemed. Just as Lazarus had to be unwrapped, we, too, need to shed the things that represent our past bondage.

I struggled with guilt even after experiencing God's redemption. Though forgiven, my past mistakes still felt heavy, making me feel unworthy.

During a church service, God revealed that I had already been forgiven, but I was still holding on to guilt. I realized I needed to let go, and at that moment, I experienced true freedom—a release from my past.

Practical Reflection

What are the grave clothes in your life? Are you holding onto guilt, shame, or the mistakes of your past? Jesus is calling you to step out of the grave and into new life. He doesn’t just want you to be alive—He wants you to be free. Take a moment to consider what old habits, regrets, or burdens you need to let go of. Picture Jesus standing before you, gently commanding, "Take off the grave clothes and let go." Trust that He has the power to set you free from anything that binds you.

Closing Thoughts

When Jesus brings us from death to life, it is a complete transformation. He calls us to leave behind the symbols of our old life—those grave clothes that no longer serve any purpose. We are redeemed, made new, and called to walk in freedom. Let today be the day you release the weight of the past and step fully into the newness of life that Jesus offers. You are no longer bound by the mistakes or regrets of yesterday; you are free in Christ.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, thank You for calling me out of the grave and giving me new life. I ask You to help me remove the grave clothes of guilt, shame and regrets that I still carry. Remind me that I am redeemed and set free by Your sacrifice. Help me to walk in the fullness of the freedom You have given me, unburdened by my past. I trust in Your love and in the new identity I have in You. Amen.
