Scripture:"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me." — 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)
Devotional Thoughts
Regret is something we all experience. Whether it's a wrong decision, a failed promise, or an act of disobedience, we have all found ourselves burdened by the weight of our past. But the beauty of God's grace is that it does not just forgive; it restores, renews, and covers every regret we carry.
One of the most powerful examples of this is found in Peter. Peter was not just any disciple—he was one of Jesus’ closest followers. He was outspoken in his faith and had even declared that he would die rather than abandon Christ (Matthew 26:33-35). Yet, in a moment of fear and weakness, Peter denied Jesus three times (Luke 22:54-62). Immediately after his third denial, the rooster crowed, and Peter realized the depth of his failure. Overcome with sorrow, he wept bitterly.
Peter’s failure could have defined him. He could have remained in his regret, allowing it to consume him. But Jesus had other plans. After His resurrection, Jesus restored Peter with grace. In John 21:15-17, Jesus asked Peter three times, "Do you love me?"—giving Peter the chance to reaffirm his commitment and wiping away the regret of his three denials. Jesus did not see Peter as a failure; He saw him as a man who was called to something greater.
Reflection
Like Peter, we have moments where we deny Christ—not necessarily with our words but with our actions, fears, or lack of faith. When we fall short, the enemy wants to keep us stuck in guilt and regret. But Jesus calls us to receive His grace. His grace is sufficient, and it covers our failures. He restores us, just as He did Peter, and calls us forward into our purpose.
Are you holding onto regrets from your past? Have you felt unworthy of God's love because of your mistakes? Jesus is calling you, not to dwell in regret, but to step into His grace. He does not define you by your failures but by His forgiveness.
Final Thoughts
Grace is not just about wiping away sins; it is about God’s relentless love that reclaims and restores. Just as Peter was renewed and used mightily for God's kingdom, we too can be restored when we surrender our regrets to God. His grace is more than enough to cover our past and lead us into a future filled with hope and purpose.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your grace that covers all my regrets. Like Peter, I have failed, but Your love never fails. Help me to receive Your grace, to let go of the past, and to walk in the newness You have for me. Restore my heart and use me for Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
