📖 Scripture
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. — Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)
Years ago, I was traveling and relying on a GPS to get me to a destination I had never visited before. I followed every instruction it gave, only to find myself at the wrong location. In that moment, I had to set the GPS aside and rely on both help and intuition to reach my true destination.
That experience reminds me of the wise men in Matthew 2. They were led by a star from the East, seeking the newborn King of the Jews. Naturally, they assumed He would be born in a royal palace, so they ended up in Jerusalem, at King Herod’s court. But that wasn’t where Jesus was. After speaking with Herod and leaving the palace, they saw the star again—and it led them directly to Jesus in Bethlehem.
Even in their detour, God didn’t abandon them. He waited, and then redirected them.
Another powerful example is Jonah. God commanded him to go to Nineveh and preach repentance. Instead, Jonah fled in the opposite direction, boarding a ship to Tarshish (Jonah 1). But God, in His mercy, sent a storm and a great fish—not to punish Jonah, but to reroute him. After being in the belly of the fish for three days, Jonah cried out to God, and God gave him another chance to fulfill his mission.
These stories remind us that even when we veer off course—intentionally or not—God still has a plan to bring us back. Through the Holy Spirit, He gently redirects us toward His divine purpose.
Are you currently in a place that seems “royal” but isn’t really where God wants you?
Are you, like Jonah, running from what God called you to do?
Spend a few quiet moments today asking:
Where have I strayed, and where do I need God’s redirection?
The Holy Spirit is a faithful navigator—trust Him to realign your path.
No matter how far off the trail we wander, God is never done with us. He doesn’t just erase us from His plan—He re-routes us with grace. Like the star waited for the wise men, and like the fish held Jonah until he was ready, God will hold us through every detour and guide us safely back to His will.
Lord, thank You for being the God who redirects. I admit, sometimes I stray, thinking I know best. But You are patient and kind, always calling me back. Holy Spirit, lead me, correct me, and bring me into alignment with Your will. Help me to trust Your guidance more than my own understanding. In Jesus' name, Amen.
