Scripture: “For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.” – Colossians 1:16 (NIV)
Devotional Thoughts
Have you ever wondered why you exist? The answer lies in this simple yet profound truth: you were created by God and for God. This foundational reality redefines how we view ourselves, our purpose, and our relationship with our Creator.
The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Colossians, beautifully explains that every aspect of creation owes its existence to God. He is the Creator and sustainer of all things, and more importantly, He is the purpose of all things. This includes you. Your life is not random; it was intentionally designed for a divine purpose.
Eric Liddell, the Scottish Olympian whose story inspired the movie Chariots of Fire. Eric famously said, “I believe God made me for a purpose, but He also made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure.” Eric recognized that his athletic ability was a gift from God, designed not just for his success but for God's glory. Despite being pressured to run a race on Sunday, Eric chose to honour God by holding firm to his convictions. His decision to glorify God above worldly acclaim reshaped his legacy.
Eric’s story shows us that when we align our talents and decisions with God’s purpose, we not only experience personal fulfillment but also inspire others to see His hand at work.
This understanding transforms the way we live. If we were created by Him, then He knows us intimately. If we were created for Him, then our ultimate satisfaction can only be found in Him. Anything else will leave us empty and searching.
Practical Reflection
Identity in Christ: Recognize that your value is not in what you do but in whose you are. Meditate on the fact that you belong to God and were designed with love and intention.
Purposeful Living: Consider your daily activities and ask yourself, "How does this reflect God's glory?" Whether in work, relationships, or rest, live with a mindset of glorifying Him.
Reconnection: If you’ve strayed, know that God is always ready to restore your relationship with Him. Spend time in prayer, asking Him to realign your heart with His purpose.
Closing Thoughts
Understanding that you are created by God and for God changes everything. It shifts your focus from self-centered living to Christ-centered living. When you walk in this truth, you find peace, joy, and a deeper sense of belonging. Remember, you were not created by accident but by a loving God who desires fellowship with you. Let this truth shape your thoughts, actions, and worship today.
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You for creating me with purpose and intention. Help me to remember that I am made by You and for You. Align my heart with Your will so that everything I do reflects Your glory. When I feel lost or unsure, remind me of the identity and purpose I have in You. Thank You for loving me and calling me Your own. In Jesus' name, Amen.
