Scripture:“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

— Hebrews 12:2 (KJV)

Devotional Thoughts

As we navigate the journey of life, it is essential to keep our eyes on the outcome, just as Jesus did. Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, endured the agony of the cross because He knew the joy that awaited Him on the other side. His path was not easy; it was marked by suffering, betrayal, and pain. Yet, He endured because He understood that the process was necessary for the glory that would follow.

This became very real to me as I was counselling my son, who is about to embark on his journey through university. The road ahead for him will undoubtedly be rigorous and demanding. However, the vision of the outcome—achieving his dream —will empower him to endure the challenges and difficulties of his academic journey.

In our own lives, the promises of God often come with their own set of challenges. Joseph, a man destined for greatness, had to endure the harsh realities of slavery, loneliness, and imprisonment before he could realize the fulfillment of God’s promise. The path was not easy, but the outcome was worth every trial he faced. The same is true for us. The process we go through, no matter how difficult, is shaping us and preparing us for the greater things that God has in store.

Practical Reflection:

Consider the areas in your life where you are facing difficulties or challenges. What is the desired outcome that you are striving for? It could be a career goal, a personal dream, or even a spiritual promise that God has placed in your heart. Reflect on how focusing on the outcome can give you the strength to endure the process.

Just like Joseph, who had to pass through the furnace of affliction before reaching his destiny, we too must persevere through the trials that come our way. Remember, the process is not without purpose. It is shaping you, refining you, and preparing you for the greater glory that lies ahead.

Closing Thoughts

The process is often difficult, filled with moments where giving up seems like the easier option. But let us remember that the outcome is worth the endurance. Jesus endured the cross because He knew the joy that was before Him. Likewise, we are called to endure, knowing that the process is temporary, but the outcome is eternal. Trust in God’s timing, and remain steadfast, knowing that He is with you every step of the way.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the example of Jesus, who endured the cross for the joy set before Him. Help us to keep our eyes on the outcome You have promised, even when the process is difficult. Give us the strength to endure, the patience to wait, and the faith to trust in Your perfect plan. May we, like Joseph, persevere through every trial, knowing that You are working all things together for our good. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
