Scripture: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." - Matthew 7:7 (NIV)

Devotional Thoughts

The story of Zelophehad’s daughters in Numbers 27:1-8 is a testament to the power of asking. In a time when inheritance laws heavily favored male heirs, these five sisters dared to approach Moses and the leaders with a bold request. They understood their rightful claim and were not afraid to voice it. Their plea wasn’t just about land or material possessions; it was about preserving their father’s name and legacy.

This narrative highlights several crucial aspects of asking. First, it demonstrates the importance of knowing your rights and standing on them. Second, it shows that God listens to and honours bold prayers that align with justice and righteousness. Moses, unsure of how to proceed, took their case to the Lord, and God’s response was clear: their request was just.

Think about it: these women challenged the status quo, not out of rebellion, but out of a deep-seated desire for fairness. Their courage led to a change in the law, benefiting not just them but generations to come. This story reminds us that sometimes, we need to ask, even when it feels daunting or unconventional. God often uses our bold requests to bring about His will and establish His justice.

Practical Reflection

Closing Thoughts

Jesus in Matthew 7:7 encourages us to ask because He is a generous Father who delights in blessing His children. Whether it is a request for wisdom, provision, healing, or justice, we should bring our petitions to Him in faith. The daughters of Zelophehad teach us that asking can break barriers and lead to unexpected blessings.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for the example of the daughters of Zelophehad. Help me to know my inheritance in you and to approach you with boldness and faith. Grant me the wisdom to seek your guidance and the courage to act on it. May my requests bring glory to your name and establish your justice in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
