Scripture: "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves." — Matthew 7:15 (NIV)

Devotional Thoughts

We are living in an age where access to information has become effortless. With the tap of a finger, we can watch sermons, listen to preachers, and read all sorts of spiritual teachings from around the world. Unfortunately, with the rise of this digital age, there is also a wave of dangerous misinformation—adulterated doctrines that deviate from the truth of God’s Word.

I have recently watched and listened to messages on TV and the internet with teachings that are not rooted in the Bible. Many of these messages fail to address the relationship with God. Some even preach that, as Christians, we are immune to challenges, forgetting that challenges are part of our Christian journey. This experience reminded me of Jesus’ warning in Matthew 7:15. These so-called messages of hope, often diluted with materialism and self-centeredness, have become rampant today, pulling people away from the core truth of the gospel.

The Bible warns us of false prophets, those who come in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are wolves. Their messages can sound pleasing to the ear, as they promise comfort, wealth, and success without acknowledging the reality of sin, the need for repentance, or the cost of discipleship. These messages feed our human desires, but they lack the power to bring genuine transformation.

Practical Reflection

As children of God, we need to be vigilant, like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, who examined the Scriptures daily to see if what they heard was true. We cannot be passive listeners; we need discernment from the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth (John 16:13).

Spiritual maturity requires more than enthusiasm—it requires discernment. We must immerse ourselves in God’s Word so that when we hear teachings that do not align with Scripture, we recognize it. Do not embrace teachings just because they are popular. In these end times, we must remain rooted in God's Word and led by His Spirit.

The widespread "prosperity gospel" emphasizes wealth as a sign of God's favour. While God blesses His children, Jesus told us to expect trials (John 16:33). This doctrine misleads by equating God’s love with material gain, causing some to stumble when they face hardships.

Closing Thoughts

Let us be mindful of what we allow into our hearts and spirits. Not every preacher on the internet, TV, or radio carries a message rooted in the gospel of Christ. Be watchful, discerning, and prayerful. Take time to study God’s Word for yourself, and rely on the Holy Spirit’s guidance. God has provided His truth to protect us and keep us on the path that leads to life. In these days of misinformation, let us cherish and hold tightly to the true Word of God.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Word, which is true and everlasting. Help me to be vigilant and discerning, to recognize when messages do not align with Your truth. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, that I may have wisdom and understanding. Guide me in Your Word and protect me from false teachings. May I always stand firm in Your truth, sharing the light of the gospel in a world full of deception. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
